How to set up CEO days to efficiently run your business [ + prioritize the most impactful work]

CEO days allow you to have regularly scheduled time to be a business owner - not a task rabbit. And let me tell you, being able to zoom out of your business and take time to strategize, plan and reflect helps you build a future for your biz.

Let’s talk CEO days.

Have you ever heard of CEO days? 🧐

I find them 1) magical and 2) essential for me to run my biz with complete clarity.

If you don't know what they are, CEO days are scheduled days in your workweek that are dedicated to CEO work, aka, working ON your business.

We're really good at jumping into our to-do list and staying there for weeks without coming up for air.

But that doesn't help us manage and run our business, it helps us tick things off a list.

CEO days allow you to have regularly scheduled time to be a business owner - not a task rabbit. And let me tell you, being able to zoom out of your business and take time to strategize, plan and reflect helps you build a future for your biz.

What work is included in CEO days?

This is the time you will dedicate to work ON your business, NOT IN. Meaning, your main purpose is to plan, strategize, review, think, and/or brainstorm.

Here are some ways to use your CEO time:

  • Mapping out your business plan

  • Creating a marketing strategy

  • Budgeting

  • Planning your next hire

  • Content planning

  • Managing your schedule

  • Brainstorming new services/courses, products,

  • Reviewing/auditing systems

  • File organization

  • Revamping offers

  • Researching new tools and systems, etc.

The important thing to remember with CEO days is to not fall into the trap of doing tasks. i.e., creating social media posts, writing captions, creating graphics, etc. This is easy to mix into your CEO day because most of us use content creation as a crutch for our businesses.

When in reality, we need to understand from a birds-eye-view what we’re trying to achieve and then get into the work. CEO time allows you that space to not do.

Prioritizing impactful work.

CEO days are EPIC for eliminating the busy work and bringing focus to your priorities like growing your revenue, visibility, impact and time freedom.

During your CEO time, you’re narrowing your focus on what you need to put in place, whether that be a new marketing strategy or learning how to organize the back end of your business. (I’ve got a workshop for that - read more here).

It’s much easier to answer the question, what is a priority and going to bring the most impact (your business, clients, environment, family, my schedule, cash flow etc.) when you have had time to plan what you want to achieve and do in your business?

Here’s an example of how to prioritize impactful work:

  • You just had a CEO day where you realized that you haven’t done any work on putting your business ‘out there’ and you know you need to talk about your biz and skills on other people’s platforms.

  • You ask yourself what is the outcome of putting your business ‘out there'. You realize that increasing your brand awareness is going to help you nurture and build a new audience and generate sales.

  • From there, You decide to create a visibility plan (free template here)

  • That task of creating a visibility plan is now your priority AND impactful work because it’s going to bring in new people to your online bubble, get more people interested in what you do and ultimately, bring you more opportunities and revenue.

Boom. You just prioritized impactful work. No more busy work, no more creating 500 reels because of the algorithm and no more second-guessing what to do.

How I use my CEO days.

Here is how I incorporate CEO days into my schedule to help me run my business smoothly:

  • Every first 1/2 of my Monday is for CEO time - I don't allow meetings, I don't check my emails, and I don't have any notifications on

  • I double-check my Sunday night self-review to make sure my work week is planned out with a MAXIMUM of 3 priorities for each day

  • I make sure that my priorities for the week align with my goals for the month/quarter or year

  • I run through my current marketing efforts, lead generation activity, revenue (what's coming in/what I need), etc.

  • Strategize - I strategize new offers, course launches, email marketing campaigns + visibility opportunities

  • Review - I review my projects weekly to make sure I’m on track and I do a monthly review of my business to check progress, realign where needed d and of course - celebrate small wins!

I will say this - I would not be able to do what I've done in my business in such a short timeframe without committing to CEO time.

When you slot in the time, you make a commitment to growing your business past your reactive thoughts and tasks. You are giving yourself space to run your business and make decisions from data and info, not from FOMO.

Next Steps.

Try out your own CEO Day or half day.

Put it in your calendar as a recurring event to automate your reminders.

Start small if you need to and just create a few hours of CEO time if a half day or day is too much.

Commit to being a business owner every week. Your list of tasks will never end anyway ;)
